The Great Bake

Frequently Asked Questions

A tasty way to fight cancer! The Great Bake is an online bake sale that allows you to sell baked goods to family and friends - and raise money for the Lymphoma Research Foundation.

The Great Bake comes (out of the oven) in Fall 2020 and runs through the end of 2020. Now is the perfect time to start! Remember upcoming holidays if you need some inspiration.

Set your own personal deadline(s) for friends and family to order treats from you - they'll donate and use your Personal Fundraising Page to 'purchase' an order.

Be ambitious, but realistic. Your friends and family want to support you - fighting cancer is a cause everyone can get behind. You can increase your goal if you exceed it.
IMPORTANT: Be the first donor to your page and make a donation that is significant to you. This will encourage others to do the same (plus, you deserve some treats, too!).

What do you enjoy baking? Is there a specialty that friends and family request you bring to gatherings? Whether it's your grandmother's chocolate chip cookies, brownies, your favorite muffins or something easy to transport like homemade Chex Mix, go for it and have fun! It doesn't have to be fancy or complicated. Choose something that works for you.

Here are three simple ways to distribute your goodies:
1. Choose a day for donors to come by and pick up purchases. Set up a no contact pick-up area on your porch or garage.
2. Though more time consuming, you could set up a delivery route to make sure your treats get to everyone fresh and ready to eat.
3. Mail or ship: works best for less fragile treats and a great way to include out-of-town family and friends (who might even make a larger contribution for your treats)!

Donations or 'purchases' of all amounts are welcome. We suggest $25, $50, $100 or $250 to include a price point for everyone. Once someone donates, it's up to you to decide how many treats your 'customers' receive. There is no set or required amount of baked goods that you must provide for a donation - just that you use your best judgement and provide a fair quantity of treats.
HINT: Let friends and family know that they'll get a little more for larger donations.

Looking for something special to provide your most generous customers? Consider presenting treats in special packaging or a fun tin ('pastry gift box' on Amazon yields many inexpensive and fun results) - include a personal note or even share your recipe.

The easiest way is to encourage family and friends to give using the 'Donate' button on your Personal Fundraising Page. Checks may be sent to:

Lymphoma Research Foundation
Attn: Great Bake
88 Pine Street, Suite 2400
New York, NY 10005
*Include a note with the Baker's name and the baker's fundraising page will be credited.

Bakers of all ages welcome - grab the kids and make it a family project. Measuring counts for math practice!

Our toolkit helps you spread the word about your Great Bake. Check it out for graphics to share on social media, printable tags and labels for your treats, hashtags, baking suggestions and other ideas for raising dough for LRF. All bakers should also watch their mailbox for a special mailed welcome gift!

Share your story! Why is cancer research important to you? What part has baking played in your life? Make sure to customize your page with a photo or video. Every donation and each sweet treat supports LRF's mission of eradicating lymphoma and serving those touched by the disease. Email a link to family and friends and remember to share it on social media. It's also a great chance to explain any stories behind a special recipe.
HINT: Let customers know that their generosity and larger donations will not only support a great cause, but will 'purchase' extra treats or perhaps special packaging!

What makes the Great Bake even better? Baking with a friend! Two or more people can work together and share a fundraising page - just remember that only one of you will receive emails from LRF and updates about your Great Bake.
